Ear PWR Featured In Blue Banner Print E-mail
Thursday, 07 February 2008

Ear Pwr continues to build a strong fan base with catchy tunes and an emphasis on fun.

If you're looking for soaring vocal gymnastics, searing guitar solos, or deep literary gut opening songs, then you might want to avoid local favorites, Ear Pwr.  But, if you're looking for a band which emphasizes infectious poppy lyrics against an electro-punk beat, if your looking for a band who plays  for the pure enjoyment of their audiences, if you're looking for a band whose songs encourage (even demand) that you just loosen up, haven fun, and get your feet moving....then look no further than Ear Pwr.  The band has built a strong following in the Asheville area and was a huge hit at the recent POPAsheville Festival.

The band was recently featured in an article by Alex Minor, writing for the Blue Banner. (Read the full article at the Blue Banner website )

Excerpt:

"Most of all, Ear Pwr is just a really fun house band. Devin (Booze) has always carried the happiness thing. It's high energy, excitement, fun," said Forrest McCuller, 21-year-old literature student.  Booze, 20-year-old UNC Asheville music technology student and 25-year-old Sarah Reynolds generate large, lively crowds at their Asheville performances.

I like death metal. If you can get a death-metal fanatic to jump to electronic dance music, then you're good," (Ashley) Rochester said.

Ear Pwr utilizes electronic beats, synthesizer, megaphone, xylophone and vocals by both band members.

"I use a sequencer, drum machine and a sampler," Booze said. Reynolds mainly plays the keyboard, a tambourine and bongos.

"Call it infectious, but you will want to see them again. Booze and Reynolds teamed up after meeting in Winston-Salem."We grew up in Winston-Salem and Devin was in a band, Hide and Seek. They played on the street near my apartment. I came down and thought Devin was really hot," Reynolds said. According to the two, Reynolds contributed to Hide and Seek's breakup.

Part of Ear Pwr's charm lies in the obvious connection between the two performers."Our music is a projection of love, and how we like each other a lot. We want to make people happy. We want people to have a good time and come see us," Reynolds said.

"I don't want to say that I didn't think I would like Pop Asheville. It was just a little weird. We don't usually play big shows or venus, but it was awesome. People danced. It was people of all different ages and backgrounds," Reynolds said.
