Asheville band, The Cheeksters, were recently featured in an article in the Knoxville News. The full article is available by clicking here.
The group relocated to Asheville, N.C., in 2000 and has just released a new album, "Movers and Shakers." Although the core of the group remains Mark and Shannon, who have been married since the early 1990s, the couple say the Cheeksters are more than a duo.
Shannon was born in Memphis and grew up in Johnson City. She attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville before moving on to the University of South Carolina. After graduation, she took a trip to Europe.
"I met Shannon by chance on a train in London," says native Briton Mark. "I didn't get to meet many people from America."
"I had maybe conjured up images of the Rolling Stones," says Shannon. "And he had watched 'The Dukes of Hazzard.' "
Shortly after the move to Asheville, the Cheeksters took a hiatus from performing concerts, although they did continue to record and create new music.
When the Cassons returned to performing concerts, they wanted to make sure the group was seen as a full band not just a duo. In addition to the Cassons and Little, the group includes Jay Moye (acoustic and electric guitar), Mike Baker (drums, percussion) and Michael Hart (electric guitar, trumpet, bass, vocals).
