Among the international muscians who have chosen to make Asheville their home, is renowned Scottsh harper, William (Billy Jackson). Jackson was a founding member of the Scottish band Ossian back in the late 1970's when Celtic Music was just beginning to become a "phenomenon" in America. After touring for several years with Ossian, Billy begain a solo performing career and his travels brought him to Asheville. Like countless others, Billy was drawn to the physical beauty of the area as well as the vast musical offerings. When he embarked on a second career as a musical therapist, he decided to relocate to America and chose to make Asheville his home. Billy has received numerous honors in his stellar career, but perhaps his greatest honor was having his composition, Land of Light, selected as the official national anthem for Scotland in 1998.
